Father's Day Fizztastic Experiment: Water Balloon Strength Test!

6/15/2025

Introduction:
Fathers are strong, protective, and always ready to catch us when we fall—just like our Heavenly Father! But have you ever wondered just how strong something soft and flexible—like a water balloon—can be? 💧🎈

In today’s
fizz-tastic experiment, we’ll put water balloons to the test! Can they handle pressure without bursting? This reminds me of Isaiah 41:10 (NLT):
"Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand."

Just like our dads (and God!) are strong enough to carry our worries, we’re going to see how strong a water balloon can be before it pops! Let’s get started! 🎉

Fizzlebop Supply List:
✅ Water balloons (fill at least 5)
✅ A large bowl or bucket (for any splashes!)
✅ A sturdy plastic cup
✅ Coins, small rocks, or other small weights
✅ Towel (because, you know... water balloons! 💦)

The Experiment:
1️⃣ Fill your water balloon with water—just enough to be firm but not stretched to its limit. Tie it securely.
2️⃣ Place the water balloon inside the bowl or bucket to keep it steady.
3️⃣ Balance the plastic cup on top of the balloon.

Fizz Tip: You may have to use your hand to keep the cup steady, but don’t help support the weight of the cones.

4️⃣ Start adding weight! Slowly place coins, rocks, or other small objects into the cup.
5️⃣ Keep adding weight until... SPLASH! The balloon pops! 💥
6️⃣ Record your results. How much weight did it hold before bursting? Try again with more or less water in the balloon. Does that change the results?

“Dr. Fizzlebop, What’s Happening?”
Water balloons may seem delicate, but water molecules inside them create surface tension, which helps distribute weight evenly. The fuller the balloon, the tighter the rubber stretches—making it less flexible and more likely to pop. But when the balloon isn’t overfilled, it can stretch and absorb more weight before bursting!
This is a lot like strength in life. When we carry too much on our own, we might feel like we’ll burst under pressure. But when we rely on God and those who support us—like our dads—we can handle so much more!

Devotional Thought:
💙
Fathers are strong protectors, but even they have limits—just like our water balloons! The good news? God’s strength never runs out! He’s always ready to help, guide, and carry us through anything.
On this Father’s Day, take time to thank the fathers, grandfathers, and father-figures in your life. And remember that your Heavenly Father loves you with a never-ending strength that will never fail! 💪✨

Collecting Your Family’s Data:
🔍 How much weight did your water balloon hold?
💦 Did different amounts of water make a difference?
🎈 Did some balloons last longer than others? Why?
💙 How does this remind you of your dad’s strength and God’s strength?

Prayer Time:
Dear God,
Thank You for the fathers and father figures in our lives who love, guide, and protect us. Help us remember that Your strength is even greater, and You are always there to carry us when life feels too heavy. Bless our dads today and remind them how much they are appreciated! Amen.

Happy Father’s Day! 💙🎈 Looking for more faith-filled, fizz-tastic experiments? Check out Faith and Science with Dr. Fizzlebop for more hands-on fun that connects science and faith! 🚀🔬✨

Fizzing Floral Bouquet Experiment

5/10/2025

Fizzlebop Supply List:
  • Fresh flowers (carnations, daisies, or mom’s favorite!)
  • Vase or clear glass jar
  • Baking soda (2 tablespoons)
  • Vinegar (½ cup)
  • Food coloring (optional, for a fizztastic color burst!)
  • Spoon
  • Water
  • Pie pan or cookie sheet
  • A heartfelt note for Mom 💖
The Experiment:
  1. Fill the vase halfway with water and stir in a few drops of food coloring.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons of baking soda and stir well.
  3. Carefully arrange the flowers in the vase.
  4. Set the vase on a cookie sheet or in a pie pan.
  5. When it’s time for a grand surprise, slowly pour in the vinegar.
  6. Watch as fizzy bubbles rise, creating a bubbling bouquet of appreciation! 🌸💨

Dr. Fizzlebop, What’s Happening? When vinegar and baking soda mix, they create carbon dioxide gas, forming those fun fizzy bubbles! The reaction is safe for flowers and adds an extra special effect to Mom’s bouquet—just like she adds extra sparkle to life!

Devotional: A Mother’s Love 💖
Mothers are a special gift from God! They care for us, guide us, and love us with all their hearts. In Proverbs 31:26-27 (NLT), the Bible says, "When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness. She carefully watches everything in her household and suffers nothing from laziness."
Just like our experiment shows how love and care can grow something beautiful, a mother’s love nurtures us every day. God designed moms to be strong, loving, and full of wisdom to help us grow. This Mother’s Day, let’s celebrate the amazing women God has placed in our lives—moms, grandmothers, and mother figures—who reflect His love in the most wonderful ways!
How can you show your mom love today? 💐❤️

Collecting Your Family’s Data:
🔬 How long did the fizz last?
💡 What colors did you use for the bouquet?
🌷 How did Mom react to the bubbling surprise?

Prayer Time:
Dear God, Thank You for the amazing gift of moms! Just like our fizzing bouquet, they bring joy, love, and beauty into our lives. Help us show kindness and appreciation to them not just today, but every day. Bless all the moms and motherly figures who care for us so well. Amen.

Color-Changing Flower Fun! May Day Experiment

5/5/2025

Fizzlebop Supply List:
🌸 White flowers (carnations, daisies, or roses)
💧 Glasses or jars filled with water
🎨 Food coloring (any color you like!)
✂️ Scissors

The Experiment:
1️⃣ Trim the stems of your white flowers.
2️⃣ Fill each glass with water and a few drops of food coloring (the more drops, the stronger the color!).
3️⃣ Place a flower in each glass and observe over the next few hours!
4️⃣ Watch as the petals slowly change color! 🌈

“Dr. Fizzlebop, What’s Happening?”
Plants drink water through their stems, pulling it up like a straw! The colored water travels to the petals, showing how plants absorb nutrients. It’s just like how we soak up God’s love and share it with the world! ❤️

Devotional:
📖 May Day & Our Faith 🌿Just like flowers grow and bloom, God wants us to grow in our faith and spread His love. Colossians 2:7 (NLT) says,
"Let your roots grow down into Him, and let your lives be built on Him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness."

As we celebrate May Day and the beauty of God’s creation, let’s remember to share kindness, encouragement, and God’s love with those around us—just like spreading sunshine on a spring day! 🌞

Collecting Your Family’s Data:
🔍 What colors did your flowers turn?
🌿 How long did it take for the petals to change?
🧐 What do you think would happen if you mixed two food coloring colors together?

Prayer Time:
Dear God,
Thank You for the beauty of spring and the reminder that You make all things new! Help us grow strong in our faith, just like the flowers You created. May we spread Your love to others and bring joy wherever we go. Thank You for Your goodness!
Amen. 🌼✨

Squishy Turkeys

11/15/2023

Introduction

Greetings! I am thankful that you have joined me today at Fizzlebop Labs. In fact, I’m feeling besonders dankbar (which means “extra thankful” in German). Our experiment is quite fun, and I think it’ll have you giggling a bit when you’re done. Be sure to have everyone participate and make their very own squishy turkey.

WARNING! This experiment requires borax. Safety first! Do not ingest borax.

Fizzlebop Supply List:

  • Nitrile exam glove
  • Tall glass
  • 1/2 cup (120 mL) white glue
  • 1 cup (240 mL) water
  • Measuring cup (1 cup or 240 mL)
  • 1 tsp (5 g) borax powder
  • Colorful markers

The Experiment:

  • Put the glove fingers down in a tall glass, and stretch the opening of the glove over the rim of the glass.
  • Pour the glue into the glove.
  • Pour 1⁄2 cup (120 mL) of the water into the glove.
  • Take the glove out of the glass, hold the glove closed, and carefully squish it to mix the contents.
  • In a separate measuring cup, mix the borax with another 1⁄2 cup (120 mL) water. Pour the water and borax mixture into the glove.
  • Knot the glove like a balloon, then squish the glove to mix all the ingredients.

FIZZ TIP: Do not squish the glove too hard.

  • Decorate your squishy turkey with markers.

“Dr. Fizzlebop, what’s happening?”

In this experiment, two of the ingredients—glue and borax—mix together to form long chains of molecules. These chains are called polymers. The water allows these polymers to move around inside the glove. When they do, they stretch and stick together.

Collecting Your Family’s Data

  • Describe the feeling of the glue-borax turkey when you squish it between your hands.
  • What do you think it would feel like if you had only filled the glove with water?
