Welcome to the silly land of Hippos and their friends
A day at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo presented a daddy-daughter moment that would become a fantastic colorful series for everyone.

Hippopolis is a series meant to educate and inspire kids as they grow and learn. With books dedicated to teaching the early lessons of childhood (Colors, Letters, Numbers, Emotions, and Shapes) as well as entertain them through fun colorful stories.
At the Zoo one day with my three girls we visited the Hippos (or as my youngest calls them Hoppos.) As we left the Zoo that day we started getting silly with a song we made up about red hippos, blue hippos, green hippos, and rainbow hippos. It went like this; Red Hippo, Red Hippo, Silly Hippo, Silly Hippo. From there the stories began to come together. It was my brilliant wife who suggested that the first book feature alliteration as a way to further help kids learn. And so you have Hippopolis, but not without the amazing artistic super powers of Caleb Havertape. Caleb is a dad like me and saw the fun and uniqueness in these silly hippos. It was his creativity that brought these hippos from black and white text to full on vibrant wild animals you can hold in your hands with each turn of the page. |
